A man has been arrested on suspicion of 15 armed robberies in the past month from downtown Oakland to the south campus area of Berkeley.

The man, whose name and photograph were not released while witnesses reviewed line-ups, was arrested after he returned to a car parked in West Oakland that police said matched a license plate from a Monday robbery in Berkeley.

"An alert citizen got the license plate,'' Oakland police Lt. Lawrence Green said.

Officers spotted the car Monday night in the 1400 block of 12th Street in West Oakland. Police from Berkeley and Oakland took turns watching the vehicle until a man got inside. He was arrested without incident.

The man, who allegedly brandished a gun and threatened violence in most case, is suspected of robbing as many as 10 businesses along Telegraph Avenue and may be responsible for robbing from a candy store and chiropractor's office, police said.

When police searched Sarver's house, they found a list including a reminder to ``rob bank.''

Sarver was back in court Monday, drawing a prison sentence of 10 years and five months, plus two years under supervision after he gets out. U.S. District Judge Kathryn Vratil also ordered him to make restitution of $13,834.

Day Care Owner Admits Guilt in Death

Day care owner pleads guilty in child's death
Wednesday, August 11, 2004 Posted: 3:27 PM EDT (1927 GMT)

BILLINGS, Montana (AP) -- A day care owner who gave a 1-year-old boy an overdose of allergy medicine pleaded guilty to negligent homicide.

Prosecutors said Sabine Bieber gave Benadryl to children at the Tiny Tots Day Care to put them to sleep. The medicine killed Dane Jordan Heggem in January 2003, and Bieber also pleaded guilty to criminal endangerment for giving three other children the medicine.

Prosecutors said they would recommend that Bieber receive a 20-year sentence with 15 suspended for negligent homicide and a 10-year sentence with five suspended for criminal endangerment, with the sentences running concurrently.

In exchange for the guilty plea, prosecutors dismissed three felony charges -- two counts of criminal endangerment and one count of tampering with evidence.

Bieber is scheduled to be sentenced October 29 and remains free on bond until then.

Dane's father, Travis Heggem, said it was comforting to hear Bieber admit guilt for his son's death, but the family would like a guarantee that she will face jail time.
